INVITATION TO TENDER
Operation Sakhinzuzo is a partnership project between Tongaat Hulett and KZN Department of Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs.
As part of this partnership 3000 hectares will be planted over a 4-year period commencing in the 2017/18 planting season. This cane will be planted in small-scale grower areas that supply cane to all Tongaat Hulett Mills.
The aims of Operation Sakhinzuzo were to:
- Revive cane land and develop cane growers
- Contribute to rural development
- Create employment in the rural areas
- Create SMME service providers for the small-scale cane growing sector.
- Increase cane supplies to the sugar mills
In the Fourth Phase of the project, 134 hectares of sugar cane will be planted for selected cooperatives at Amatikulu and Felixton sugar Mills.
Tenders are hereby invited from potential contractors for the Fourth Phase of Operation Sakhinzuzo to tender for the following:
- Land preparation and planting of sugarcane.
- Supply and apply planting fertiliser as per recommendations.
Evaluation criteria: Tenders will be evaluated using a system that awards points to technically compliant tenders on the basis of 80 points for price and 20 points for preference and other factors.
Tender documents can be collected and delivered at the Tongaat Hulett Extension Services Offices at Amatikulu and Felixton Mills during working hours from 1 July 2020.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, potential contractors will be expected to indicate when collecting tender documents whether they may have access to Microsoft Teams or Zoom for voluntary webinars to clarify the tenders which will be scheduled for 3 July 2020 at 10h00 and 12h00. Contact sessions for those that do not have access to the available virtual technology will be scheduled in smaller groups on the 7 & 8 July 2020 at Tongaat Hulett Agricultural Offices from 10h00 to 13h00. Closing time and date for the receipt of tenders: 12:00 on 20 July 2020.
Telephonic, telegraphic, facsimile, electronic, e-mailed and late tenders will not be accepted. Requirements for sealing, addressing, delivery, opening and assessment of tenders are stated in the tender document. The company reserves the right not to award this tender to any tenderer.
