The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is a globally recognised and respected medical research institution whose vision is to build a healthy nation through research and innovation. A revitalisation of the SAMRC over the past two years has resulted in an organisation that leads in health innovation through the generation of world class, cutting-edge research with a high impact on policy and practice. The SAMRC seeks to appoint a Vice President (VP) Research, who will lead, manage and expand the intramural research portfolio of the SAMRC.

The SAMRC is seeking a creative and innovative medical doctor and health related or medical scientist with an international reputation and an established research track record, evidence of capacity development and success in grant-funding. The incumbent will further strengthen the SAMRC, focusing on impact and maintaining world class standards.

VICE PRESIDENT RESEARCH

5-year contract position

Cape Town or Pretoria or Durban Office

Qualifications and experience: • A medical doctor with either specialist degree or PhD in Health Sciences • active membership with the Health Professionals Body, e.g. HPCSA • an understanding of the national and international health research environment and health priorities • experience and/or knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations including the South African Medical Research Council Act, National Health Act, and the Public Finance Management Act • a scientist with international standing who has been rated and has an established record of excellence and achievement in health research.
