Assistant Chief: Fire Safety and Health and Safety (Hermanus)

• Directorate: Protection Services (Ref.: WC0329552) • Salary R369 696 per annum plus participation in the “Perk” car allowance scheme and cellphone allowance

Minimum requirements:

• A Diploma in Fire Technology from SAESI or equivalent SAQA acreddited qualification in Fire Technology or Fire Engineering Science • Fire Safety Course • compliance with the Municipal Regulations on Minimum Competency Levels as provided for in Regulation 493 dated 15 June 2007 (alternatively applicants must declare themselves willing to obtain the aforementioned qualification within 18 months after appointment) • 5 years’ experience in a similar environment in an emergency service • a valid Code C1 driver’s licence • computer literacy in MS Office • communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.

Main functions:

Responsible for: • effective management, planning and coordinating of the fire safety and health and safety function • performing specialised services, administration, technical and general tasks • providing Life Safety training and skills development to internal personnel • performing command and control management functions as the Fire Investigation Officer • communication with internal and external stakeholders. Special conditions: It will be expected from the successful candidate to work outside normal hours and perform standby duties.
