The candidate will be part of a management team that is ultimately responsible for creating an
environment and a culture that is conducive to the attainment of the university’s vision to be “the
African university shaping futures in the service of humanity”. Part of this responsibility lies in
determining the mission, values, goals, objectives, strategies and policies that will safeguard and
promote this vision. The candidate will provide strategic direction to the Internal Audit Department, in
accordance with relevant legislation and in alignment with the institution’s ODeL model and UNISA’s
2016-2030 Strategy. The candidate will further ensure that the Internal Auditing Department acts as an
independent appraisal function that performs the evaluation of activities and procedures and makes
recommendations as a service to the staff and the management of UNISA.
For this unique role, UNISA is seeking a seasoned Chief Audit Executive (CAE) with experience in the
complex stakeholder environments. The ideal person will have excellent people skills, demonstrable
skills and competencies in management, operational leadership and process management, forecasting,
budgeting and financial management, governance and reporting. The additional competencies
required include analytical thinking, excellent communication skills, general business acumen, general
IT knowledge, data mining and analytics.
The CAE must be an independent advisor who can challenge current practice, champion best practice
and be a catalyst for improvement with the objective of ensuring that UNISA as a whole can achieve its
strategic objectives. As an advisor to management, the CAE acts as the right hand of the Council of the
University through the Audit Committee by giving assurance on the organisation’s ability to meet its
objectives in relation to good governance, risk management and internal control.
Interested candidates who meet the following requirements may apply: Quali ed CA (SA)/
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)/ Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)/ OR relevant professional qualification.
The following key certifications will be advantageous: Master’s Degree, Certified Information
Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Control Self Assessor, Certified Information Risk Manager, Certified
Fraud Examiner, Certified Information Security Manager and Certified Ethics Officer.
Requirements: Minimum 10 years’ relevant work experience with at least 5 years in a middle to senior
management role.
Assumption of duties: As soon as possible.
Salary: Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position.
