CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER

Reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will direct the operational activities of the organisation in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the Group Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors. Lead and direct operational divisions including Television, Radio, News, Media Technology Infrastructure (MTI) and Provincial Offices. Assist the GCEO in the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans, organisational policies, governance and goals that cover operations, personnel, financial performance, and growth of the functions and/or business units mentioned above. Provide leadership, ensures discipline in planning and drives flawless execution in the Operations Cluster.
Key performance areas: • Support the GCEO in directing corporate strategy operational efficiencies, growth and sustainability of the Corporation in order to improve profitability and the quality of service offerings in the designated area of responsibility • Ensure that operational plans are aligned with corporate strategy and cohesively positions the SABC to be the best public service broadcaster in South Africa, Africa and globally• Ensure the operations of the Corporation are in line with legislative prescripts and financial policies • Ensure the broadcasting platform management and content generation activities of the SABC interface into a seamless value chain • Oversee and align the implementation of broadcasting technology platforms and capabilities to support broadcasting • Ensure the Corporation achieves operational efficiency • Oversee and ensure the sound management of financial and other functions of the Corporation in line with its legislative prescripts and financial policies • Together with other Executive Directors, facilitate proper and timeous communication to best represent the SABC to stakeholders at an operational level • Develop local, continental and global partnerships with relevant industry players • Ensure that policies are adhered to by leadership, management and employees • Assess and manage risk effectively to ensure a sustainable yet compliant SABC • Ensure that internal controls are implemented and enforced to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Requirements: • A relevant post-graduate qualification at Master’s Level • 10 years’ in the ICT industry of which5 years’ should have been at Group Executive level preferably in the broadcasting industry.
Knowledge: • The ability to identify and articulate the challenges and opportunities presented by the migration to digital broadcasting • Experience in the public sector and familiarity with the PFMA and best-in-practise corporate governance • Knowledge of the Broadcasting Act, the Electronic Communications Act, the Public Finance Management Act and related National Treasury regulations • Business acumen.
