Fresh Produce Buyer
Fruit & Vegetables

This management position reports to the Trading Manager.
In the position you will be accountable for: • Planning & implementation of growing
programmes with local producers • Product purchase prices • Sales and gross profit
for all product categories bought & sold • Maintaining product shortages & wastage
within acceptable levels • Product management in line with recognised post-harvest
principles, including quality • Food safety systems in the Distribution Centre & at
local producers • Regular farm, retail opposition and market visits • Packaging stock
levels • Promotional produce quantities & timelines • Acquiring accurate & relevant
management information • Adhering to Company Policy on Buying and Trading
Procedures • Assisting with general management duties.

Essential requirements include: • Standard of education: Grade 12 • A relevant tertiary
qualification will be an advantage e.g Agriculture/Commerce.
Previous experience: • A thorough knowledge of fruit and vegetables as well as
post-harvest principles is essential • Previous buying/trading experience in fruit and
vegetables is a requirement • Management experience in a packhouse environment
will be an advantage • computer literacy: Good all round computer skills are essential
• Special skills: Communication and interpersonal skills at staff, management and
producer level are essential.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence and be in a position to travel locally.
Remuneration will be dependent on qualification and experience but will include:

Guaranteed remuneration: Basic salary, including company contributions to both
the pension fund and medical aid. Membership of the pension fund and medical aid
is both compulsory and contributory • A fully paid company car (benefit value will be
taxable) • Short term incentive bonus, paid annually which is performance based and
NOT guaranteed) • 3 weeks annual leave.
