MTHATHA CAMPUS, NELSON MANDELA DRIVE SITE

Walter Sisulu University is a multi-campus, comprehensive University, with its seat at its Nelson Mandela Drive Site in Mthatha. The University has four campuses in Mthatha, Butterworth, Buffalo City, and Queenstown, which are headed by Campus Rectors.

The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) introduced the “New Generation of Academics Programme”(nGAP) that aimed at supporting the identification and nurturing of young academics by Universities. We are currently in Phase V of recruitment of incumbents. Universities are doing this by recruiting young and aspiring academics with a Masters degree in the relevant discipline and the successful applicants will be required to register for and complete higher degrees (Ph.D.) within the first six years of their employment. During the six-year period, the successful applicant will be supported in the development of their research and teaching expertise by means of the nGAP program.

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, SOCIAL SCIENCES, AND LAW

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SCIENCES – POLITICAL STUDIES

LECTURER: POLITICAL STUDIES

Requirements: • Master of Arts (Politics or International Relations) – Level 9 • 1 year relevant experience in a tertiary institution • Applicants must be 40 years or younger • The successful applicant must be committed to registering for a higher degree in Doctoral or Post-Doctoral studies in relevant discipline depending on what qualifications are already held by the lecturer on appointment.

Key performance areas: • Teaching and Learning – Political Theory. Foreign Policy Analysis. International Political Economy. Research methods • Research • Community engagement• University service.

Skills and competencies: • Ability to teach to small and big classes and handle students from diverse backgrounds • Having the potential to publish articles • Proven record of conference attendance and presentation of papers • Good interpersonal skills • Problem-solving skills• Computer proficiency • Highly professional.
