Key Performance Areas
The Department of Linguistics currently has a vacancy for a suitably qualified candidate at the level of Professor. The Department has strengths in the areas of systemic functional linguistics, multilingualism, sociolinguistics/semiotics, and critical discourse analysis.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Linguistics
Conduct research and publish in Linguistics
Provide Academic leadership
Facilitate Academic administration
Provide Curriculum development and assessment
Initiate and lead community engagement and outreach
Provide Academic leadership in building the department’s niche areas
A PhD in Linguistics/Applied Linguistics
Demonstrated experience in facilitating teaching and learning, preferably in the field of Linguistics
A significant record of quality peer-reviewed publications, preferably in the field of Linguistics
A record of successful postgraduate supervision, and
Evidence of expertise, national standing and an international presence in his/her field of research
The following would be added advantages and/or recommendations:
NRF (National Research Foundation) Rating.
Proficiency in or ability to work with African languages.
