Researcher Officer-Plant Protection (One post)
Qualification and requirements:
• Master degree in plant protection (Nematology) • Must have at least two (02) years teaching and research working experience in nematode research and interaction with smallholder farmers at a University or comparable institution • Evidence of at least five (05) publication in peer-reviewed DHET-accredited journals • Evidence of national or international conferences/congresses attendance and presentation of oral papers • Proven ability to supervise research projects at the Honours level • Two years (02) working experience of running nematology experiments, data capturing and analysis using computer software • Evidence of community engagement activities • Applicants who have registered for a Ph.D. in the area associated with climate-smart agriculture shall have a competitive advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to: • Research on developed products and technologies with an emphasis on protection of plants against nematode population densities at the research center and at an on-farm level for the development of smallholder farmers • Undertake individual research or in collaboration with colleagues within or outside the Department • Supervise research projects of honors students in the Department • Undertake community outreach activities as part of the University mandate • Perform any other duties/responsibilities that may be assigned by the Head of Department or Centre Manager.
