Senior Lecturer

The Department of Pathology and Medical Sciences is one of the 7 academic departments in the School of Health Care Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Limpopo. The Department offers a B.S c. Medical Sciences, M.Sc. Medical Sciences and PhD Medical Sciences programmes, and also offer service modules to other Health Sciences departments and the MBChB programme. The department seeks a senior lecturer in Medical Microbiology who will be responsible for teaching Medical Microbiology modules to B.Sc. Medical Sciences, MBChB and B.Sc. Dietetics programmes and participate in departmental research and community engagement activities.

Senior Lecturer Requirements:

Qualifications:  A PhD in Health Sciences or Medical Microbiology or related discipline.  At least two years’ teaching experiences in a tertiary institution  An experience in supervision or co-supervision of postgraduate students in a tertiary institution.  At least three (3) SAPSE accredited publications. Additional Advantage Candidates with the following qualifications will have more advantage: –  A Postgraduate diploma in higher education and training or studying toward the diploma in higher education.  Project Management certificate will serve as an advantage.  Postgraduate supervision certificate will serve as an advantage.

Skills:

 Knowledge of appropriate teaching methods in Medical Microbiology  Knowledge of appropriate assessment methods in Medical Microbiology  Knowledge in coordination of module(s)  Knowledge of statistical tests and at least SPSS software  Ability to mentor and supervise postgraduate students  Ability to work with students  Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)  Strong written and oral communication skills Attributes  Ability to work in a team  Ability to follow instructions  Pay attention to detail  Good ethical behaviour  leadership and motivational ability  organisational skills  analytical and interpreting skills  a passion for and commitment to teaching.

Duties:

 Give lectures in all Medical Microbiology modules and Medical Microbiology sections of other modules  Develop Medical Microbiology teaching material  Coordinate Medical Microbiology modules  Moderation of Medical Microbiology question papers  Supervise postgraduate students in the department and in other departments  Develop individual and group research proposals and apply for research funding  Develop teaching/Research manuscripts for publication  Participate and or chair departmental and school committees  Assist in the departmental management.
