SAMRC – ATODRU (CAPE TOWN) – Permanent post
The goal of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Research Unit (ATODRU) of theSAMRC is to generate knowledge and propose policy and other interventions that will lead to a reduction in alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) use and the associated burden experienced by individuals and society. The following vacancy is available in the Cape Town Office:
Requirements: • Holds a PhD in the health or social sciences • has minimum of 5 years’ project and staff management experience in a health research environment (more than one project) • first author ISI publications; • has presented international conferences • has supervised graduate students or has equivalent engagement in teaching or training • has demonstrated ability to generate research funding.
A proven research record in substance use or mental health is essential, with alcohol research focusing on HIV and or non-communicable diseases being an advantage. A driver’s licence is also essential.
The level of appointment will be subject to the applicant meeting the criteria for the various levels.
A salary in the region of R749 401 to R820 660 per annum, cost-to-company, will be negotiated in line with experience and qualifications.
