BURSARIES 2022
SITFE was launched in 1965 as a private sector initiative and is regarded as one of the oldest Trust Funds in South Africa. The mission of SITFE is to support, promote and advance sustainable, quality education in South African sugarcane growing areas.
In it’s 56-years history, SITFE has provided bursaries to over 10 200 students, financed school building projects, provided financial assistance to tertiary institutions and has worked closely with educational organisations to improve the overall education standard in the sugarcane growing provinces, namely KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.
The Study Assistance Programme is regarded as the sugar industry’s flagship programme and key mechanism to assist government to redress inequalities in the field of science, agriculture and engineering.
SITFE invites the “missing middle” students who have applied or are registered at a South African public University or University of Technology to apply for the 2022 SITFE bursary. In addition, the students who have applied or are enrolled at the following Agricultural colleges are also invited to apply for the bursary:
- Owen Sithole College of Agriculture
- Cedara College of Agriculture
Who Can Apply? • Registered or have applied in the Faculties of Science, Engineering or Agriculture at a University, University of Technology or College of Agriculture • The child of a sugarcane farm worker may register or apply for any field of study at a University, University of Technology or College of Agriculture • “Missing Middle” applicants whose family combined income is between R350 000 to R600 000 from sugarcane growing areas, where mills and sugar industry administrative infrastructure are located • Preference will be given to first years .
