Walk Fresh Sneaker Cleaning & Shoe Care Turns 2!
If you haven’t heard about this Daveyton-based shoe care business, you’ve been missing out.
Co-founded by Lethabo Mokoena, Thabang Nkadimeng, Thabo Manzini, Kamogelo Boikhutso and Kabelo Moswenke, Walk Fresh came about when Mokoena identified an opportunity to create employment for his peers, who were not privileged enough to go to university.
Having graduated from the University of Johannesburg with a BA in Corporate Communications in 2014, Mokoena had to make the tough choice of whether to get a job or start a business. With only R700.00 in his pocket, he shut his eyes and ears to the naysayers and took the plunge.
Awethu Projects later provided business incubator support, and the business expanded their offering from just washing sneakers to include leather care and polishing services, and other special material treatments.
From washing 40 pairs of sneakers in the first three weeks, to business collaborations with big brands such as Kiwi and J&B, this is one lot of young people to watch.
